Come on Britain, have some common sense!

This is something I, personally, have always struggled with in my life! However, instead of being beaten by a word, I would always look up it's meaning in the dictionary.  If I didn't know how to do something, I would ask for help or, more often than not, figure it out for myself!  I love learning new things, have done since I was little.

Now though, I'm not surprised that so many people cannot read or write! In school, we are all taught to read, write and use numbers. When we are young (under 10), spelling and grammar is main things, language wise, that we are taught. But so many words in the English language are too hard for even educated adults to spell! Most of my University days, I relied on spell check on the computer! I had so much information to try and keep in my head that the simplest words would be written wrong.

When people say what they want from their life, they either say; to be happy. Or they say; to have a big house, fancy car, the works. In the English language though, there is one word to cover BOTH of these types of lifestyle, content!

From Oxford Dictionary

Content (1) - a state of peaceful happiness
Content (2) - the things that are held or included in something

Surely, the type of contentment that will help us all be truly happy is the 1st definition above?? Yet, especially in Britain, we are so materialistic, it's not even funny any more!

Especially when there is such a massive variation on the income families have coming in.
Some people born in to high income families, take money for granted a lot of the time. Most people born in to a low income family, secretly hate people who live an expensive lifestyle.

If the world was less materialistic, and money-orientated, there would not be as many wars or deprived people in the world!!

Old 'sayings' should be applied to modern day politics and we might have a system that the majority of Britain understand!

The government could be explained in some of these 'sayings';

'Brute force and Ignorance'; ignorant to people's needs in life and enforcing THEIR way on the population by force, the police, armed forces etc.

'Money is the root to all evil'; they try to recover from a recession by increasing VAT to 20%?! This means only the rich British can afford the little luxuries in life, whereas the poorer members of society can barely afford to buy essentials for their families.

'Charity starts at home'; they are always donating money to other countries, even though we are at crisis point! I understand that we have to help out other countries in extreme need but we need to help out the starving and abused children in this country; the old people who are cast aside by society because they are seen as useless; the teenagers who are bored and turning to drugs, alcohol, violence and worse; the unemployed adults with no qualifications because they were failed by the school system.

'Actions speak louder than words'; how can anyone trust the government? They tell us all that not working and living on benefits is wrong; but it is not wrong to embezzle hundreds or thousands of the tax payer's money to build a duck house! Where is the sense in that? By the new government telling people on benefits what they are doing is wrong, it does not encourage unemployed people to go and get a job because they see the people in charge of the country, on decent wages, do the exact same thing!! The expenses scandal involved politicians from every party that were involved so, no matter who got in to number 10, nobody would have any faith in anything they  say!

In Britain, we have our priorities completely wrong! Instead of aiming for a job that would make you happy, we all chase the dream job with salary to match! If politicians really wanted to change the country, they should ALL be paid minimum wage! The rest of the money used to pay their horrendous salaries should go to helping low income families to make a better life for their FAMILY!! If minimum wage is supposed to be enough money for families to live on, then it should be enough to keep the PM and his family going too! Then the only people that were high up in politics, would be the ones that genuinely wanted the country, as a whole, to be happier and more content with their lives.

There are so many other old sayings that can be applied to the government! It's not difficult! It's just common sense!!

The more power the government gets, the more rules and regulations that they will enforce, the more working class Britain will rebel and we may end up with scenes like we have seen in Egypt! Probably not on the same scale but the poorer who keep getting poorer are more likely to have less respect for authority due to their own life experiences while growing up and therefore, more likely to protest with violence, rather than peacefully!

my thoughts on our so-called democracy!

I believe that there is no such thing as a democracy any more!
We all have the right to vote, so that must make it a democracy...why?
When we are given the 'right' to vote, we must choose between a SET number of people!
In Britain, you pretty much have 3 main parties.
Last election day, most of the UK were sick of every politician in the country due to the 'expenses scandal'!!
That meant that people who would normally vote, gave up! I did, but I know for a fact that every member of my family/friends that didn't vote said "they're all the bloody same" Which I did agree with but knew it was important to vote so I went for Lib Dem because they have always been the "alternative" party.
When the votes were counted, Conservative had majority but not with enough to win the prize on their own so 'persuaded' Nick Clegg to sign up with them! Swap the word persuaded with 'bullied' and I reckon that would be more true, but nobody knows!
Once Cameron and Clegg were united in a coalition government, our country started to fall apart!!
Cameron is in it for what rich people can get out of Britain in monetary terms! Clegg, according to his party, was going to focus on student etc etc. Since the 'coalition' has had CONTROL; they have put more pressure on people without jobs; that are disabled; that have mental health issues, and so on by having review after review of benefits! Making the poor, poorer and more miserable than they already are; Making the rich, richer and more arrogant and selfish than ever before!
I want to understand why Clegg went with Cameron when he could, quite easily, have gone with Labour, the other party - whose policies were along the same lines as Lib Dem! In my opinion, Clegg wanted to be known as Prime Minister in his lifetime so went for the glory and power, instead of a HAPPIER world for the majority of British people!

Britain are known for their high teen pregnancies, STI's, binge drinking, smoking, drug taking and crime! They might be known for other stuff too but, I don't care about those ones!

As a society, being different is WRONG!! Yet we are not allowed to discriminate!

Long story short...there is no COMMON SENSE left in politics any more!

The poorer people are rebelling by not working! They would quite happily leave the country but they can't afford to so it's a vicious circle!
The richer people are following what the government say. In doing so, they are getting richer! But they then have the cheek to complain about the poor people!
In my opinion, if they don't like it...MOVE!! They can afford to. If they don't want to then that is THEIR CHOICE! As such, they should stop complaining!

This, obviously, is not going to happen! But, surely, this should be the point at which the PM steps in and does something!
Politics are too complicated! They write their manifestos in 'proper' English, so the only people understanding what they are going to do are well educated people.
Have you ever tried reading Shakespeare?? I had to read 3 different ones in High School and have read NONE since because I never understood a word of it until our teacher translated!! That is what we need to do to POLITICS!

In a fair and just world, there would be another election but, instead of having to choose between the better of 3 evils, there should simply be

Government [ ]
No Government [ ]

People have to UNDERSTAND what voting is! Most people I know who don't vote are so annoyed and frustrated with Britain! They know what they want to do with their lives but, because of certain circumstances in their own past, may not have the right BIT OF PAPER to say they can do the job they want to! People are so disheartened by failure that they give up. Some commit suicide, others get depressed and go on tablets, most of which have "can cause suicidal thoughts" on the label! Where is the sense in that?!!

There were 29,691,380 votes counted last year in the general election in Britain
Doctor's wrote 39,100,100 (approx) prescriptions for anti depressants in 2009, and more in 2010 but couldn't find figures online.
That was just in England too!
If politicians spoke in normal language, maybe more people would listen! They have spin doctors and probably 20 different people that 'correct' anything he does even contemplate writing himself and nobody believes a word of it anyway!
Replace their spin doctors with top class comedians and there might be a swift change in the language that the public get to hear! But probably also the truth might be told so we KNEW EXACTLY what we were voting for!

Only the well educated can understand politics so, if you ever fail at any point in your life, you will remain a failure until the day you die because you have the right to vote, but nobody has ever explained that you should if you are not happy in your life but happy in Britain!!

Does that make sense?
Any questions, just reply and I will try to answer them!

my opinion

Courtesy of Oxford Dictionary:
The definition of DICTATOR is...
1) a ruler with total power over a country, typically one who has obtained control by force
2) a person who behaves in an autocratic way

The definition of DEMOCRACY is...
1) a system of parliamentary democracy
a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state , typically through elected representatives
      2) a multiparty democracya state governed under a system of democracy      3) the intended extension of industrial democracycontrol of an organization or group by the majority of its members       4) the intended extension of industrial democracycontrol of an organization or group by the majority of its members

In Britain, there is a SERIOUS lack of common sense in the GOVERNMENT!

We have laws, really stupid laws, from years ago that are STILL a law today because we are not allowed to ABOLISH anything! WHY NOT??Here is an example of laws STILL in force, but common sense tells us that they are OUT of DATE! http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/law/article2251280.ece
Any person WITH common sense would be laughing their head off! A person involved in POLITICS would be trying to justify them STILL being a 'law' by saying they are no longer enforce. So, WHY doesn't the government get RID of them?!
This entire country is PREJUDICE!!
The rich HATE the poor; The poor HATE the rich; The 'British' HATE the foreigners; The Scottish HATE the English; The white 'British' person HATES all people with skin that isn't white, regardless of where they were BORN; The disabled HATE the non-disabled; The non-disabled HATE the disabled!!!
But being this way, is offensive to EVERYONE, at some point in their life!
When we are 4 or 5, we are FORCED to go to school! WHY??Psychologists KNOW that children learn the best under the age of 7.So, primary 1 & 2 are when children are taught how to read, write, spell etc etc.If children, at this age, are perceived to be a 'problem' child, that label stays with them throughout school. As they get older, they realise they are going to fail so they act up even more.If children do really well in the first couple years, they are labelled a 'clever' or 'good' child, that label stays with them throughout school too. As they get older, the exams get harder and they get more stressed because in their OWN head, failing is wrong!
Everybody stresses that the Socratic way of teaching is the BEST way to teach a child but, having studied Philosophy for a year at University, I think that people have got it all wrong!!
Socrates taught Plato to have a BETTER LIFE! He did NOT teach him to be intelligent! His famous quote was 'do as I say, not as I do'. That worked for PLATO!! He had a better LIFE!Politicians have now interpreted that as the BEST way to make children be intelligent. IT'S NOT!! It's the best way to make children think for THEMSELVES!! If anything we should be learning from Plato. Socrates was around in a time when life was easier anyway! Now though, everyone is expected to work, is expected to earn their own money, is expected to be the 'best'! Socrates, in today's world, would be considered weird! Nobody would LISTEN to him! Why? Because everyone thinks they know better than the 'system' and they DO, but only for THEM!! If their thoughts do not match that of today's society, they are wrong!! They are a failure if they do not pass exams; they can't get a job they WANT because they don't have a piece of paper to say they are can do it; they either give up (on dole/anti depressants) or they find their own way to ESCAPE, even just for a few minutes! Alcohol, Smoking, Drugs...anything!!A lot of people who turn to Alcohol will, eventually, end up as an alcoholic because it's their way to escape the 'real' world! A lot of people also turn to smoking, and they end up with cancer or worse. A lot of people turn to drugs and end up dead; either from overdose, or from owing money for it to the drug dealers (not the nicest people in the world). All three of the above are dangerous in their own way but only 2 are LEGAL!! WHY?!!I know my nana smoked from the age of 14 or something and she quit when she was 80 because 'society' didn't approve any more! I know many alcoholics, including my own, useless, father! He has always let his kids down and only ever happy when he's drunk so I REFUSE to speak to him ever again! I will laugh when he dies! I could not care less about him! I hate the way he has treated me and my brothers! I have NEVER rebelled in my life! Because I have always had RESPECT for the law and the 'system'.Now, as an adult, I realise that the 'system' is wrong but, instead of someone having the courage to change it all, we are getting more and more like a dictatorship, than a supposed 'democracy'! In the last election, most people had given up on politics after the "expenses scandal". Most people quoted as saying "they are all as bad as each other" AND THEY ARE!! Our supposed 'right' to vote is not a vote for what is best for us! There are 3 main parties. Labour, Lib Dem and Labour! In a 'society' where politicians set laws etc., we should have more choice! I know there are independent candidates but, no offence, even if they do get the occasional seat, there is NO WAY they would get the majority! The last election, pretty much, summed up the nations opinion! Every candidate tells us their proposals but, the only people that would UNDERSTAND them are the very people that succeeded when being forced up through the system. The other side of Britain are the unemployed, school drop outs, young mums, disabled or generally frustrated people that have never been taught how to LIVE, not just to pass exams and be the BEST!This group of people are a larger section of the community than politicians realise, they probably even make up the MAJORITY of the British PUBLIC!!But, because they are not 'normal' in the governments eyes, they are ignored!! Hardly a democracy!! I think this is showing that as a supposed democracy we are living in is more of a dictatorship! This is just my opinion!! Which I am allowed to have as we do live in a country of free speech!
